Cyrillic to Latin for URLs
Cyrillic URLs work, but they break when copied, look like a string of percent signs in chat and confuse some systems. Here, a title becomes a clean URL according to the Bulgarian Transliteration Act — the same one used to spell names on Bulgarian ID cards.
- Follows the Bulgarian standard
- A whole list at once
- Runs in your browser
Each line becomes a separate URL — you can paste an entire list.
How to use the tool
Enter the title
One line — one URL. You can paste a whole list of titles and get them all at once.
Set the rules
Separator, maximum length and whether a final “-iya” becomes “-ia”. Short words such as “na” and “za” can optionally be dropped.
Copy
The finished URL contains only lowercase Latin letters, digits and hyphens — no spaces and no characters that get encoded.
Frequently asked questions
The Bulgarian Transliteration Act — the letters are rendered as zh, ch, sh, sht, a (for the vowel “ă”), yu and ya. It's the same system used to spell your name in a Bulgarian passport.
Because of an explicit rule for the ending “-iya” at the end of a word: it is written as “-ia”. That's why the capital is Sofia, not Sofiya. You can turn the rule off with the checkbox if you prefer the literal version.
Hyphen. Search engines read a hyphen as a separator between words, but not an underscore. For page URLs, the difference matters.
Not for this reason. Changing a working URL requires a 301 redirect and always costs some of what it has built up. The rule applies to new pages.
